Description: TEDxBELFAST - Ruth Morrow - Making Mad Ideas Sane Ruth Morrow is Professor of Architecture at Queen's University Belfast and co-founder of Tactility Factory. They strive 'to make hard things soft.'. Ruth also writes the Girli Concrete. Ruth talked about her revolutionary ideas about making places less hard and more welcoming at TEDxBelfast, the first TEDx event in the city in the historic Harbour Commissioners building. One hundred years ago, ship builders were putting the final touches to the RMS Titanic before the hull was launched in May 1911. You could have seen the ship from the Belfast Harbour Commissioners Offices. This historic building was the venue in March 2011 for the very first TEDxBelfast. We were sitting in an historical place, but we were considering the future and the place of creativity in this city. With speakers from Northern Ireland - including some coming home especially for the event - we heard about, and discussing, innovation and creativity in, architecture, communications technology, social media, the workplace and creative arts. In thespirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized
