About the Speech: David Wrights presentation discussed the causes of the financial crisis of 2008/09, the continuing economic and social consequences of that crisis, and the various policy reforms and initiatives that have been put forward in the EU in response. In particular, he briefed the audience on progress made towards implementation of the supervisory reforms recommended by the de Larosière Report, as well as on initiatives taken or tabled in relation to, amongst others: Credit Ratings Agencies; Alternative Investment Fund Regulation; Cross-Border Banking; Securitisation and Derivatives; Harmonisation of Accounting Standards; and Corporate Governance and Remuneration Policies. About the Speaker: David Wright is Deputy Director General of the European Commissions DG Internal Market and Services (DG MARKT). He recently served as Chief Rapporteur to the High Level Group on Financial Supervision in the European Union, chaired by Jacques de Larosière, whose report of February 2009 laid the basis for the EUs legislative response to the financial crisis. Mr Wright has worked in many other areas during his 32 year career in the European Commission, including international trade negotiation, the forecasting and modeling of energy markets and as an adviser in the Commissions Forward Studies Unit.
