He is a member of faculty at the Stanford Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine and works on the clinical faculty for pediatric bone marrow transplantation at University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Kraft is also the founder and past CEO of StemCor Systems, a company that develops tools to enable adult stem cell based regenerative therapies. Through StemCor, he has developed and implemented original ideas and designs for new medical equipment that have been granted FDA approval. Today, he serves on the company's board and is the consulting Chief Medical Officer.

He served as flight surgeon with an F-15 squadron in the Massachusetts Air National Guard and conducted research on aerospace medicine that was published with NASA. Recently, he was named a finalist for astronaut selection.
