Unit: Center for Educational Partnerships - Fresno, CACategory: Student - Off-CampusOpening Date: 08/31/2012Description:UC Merced Center for Educational Partnerships (CEP) partners with San Joaquin Central Valley high schools and middle schools to implement a series of academic enrichment activities focusing on educational needs with a particular focus on promoting a college going culture. The goal is to empower students and parents with the knowledge and skills necessary for them to navigate the myriad of issues related to financing a higher education and matriculating at an institution of higher education. The Special Learning Assistant will serve as an office assistant in the CEP.Under direct supervision of the Director, the learning assistant will participate in all aspects of the CEP activities and programs. The Special Learning Assistant will be responsible for the following:• Becoming familiarized with all materials and technology tools used by CEP staff;• Assist with the Front Office Desk coverage when necessary; • Assist in the scanning of surveys;• Assist in developing a resource file of enrichment materials for use in various CEP programs; • Assist in phone banking various participants when necessary;• Demonstrate experience working with low-income, underrepresented students;• Strong verbal communication and presentation skills required;• Assist in maintaining daily/weekly records as assigned by CEP staff;• Incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors; and• Assist with other office duties as assigned.Qualifications:• In the process of attaining a Bachelor’s Degree.• Demonstrated experience working with low-income, underrepresented students and the interventions; necessary to reach this community through culturally appropriate strategies and approaches.• Excellent writing, verbal communication and presentation skills required.• Ability to utilize computerized applications for word processing and spreadsheets, as well as, electronic mail, specific applications include Word, Excel and Outlook; internet skills. • Demonstrated Must have a flexible schedule for afternoon and evening meetings and weekend activities. • Must provide official university transcript. • Experience working in a fast-pace office environment.• Ability to manage workload, both independently and as part of a team and deal with stressful situations.
