It took one half to get the Walsh offense started as the Cavaliers scored all of their goals in the second half in a 3-0 victory over Ursuline College Wednesday afternoon. The win improved the Cavs overall record to 10-6 and 4-5 in the conference. The Arrows fell to 9-7 overall and 3-6 in conference after winning five straight contests. Walsh remains undefeated all time against Ursuline, winning all seven matches between the schools.
The Cavs scored the first goal in the 51st minute when Carley Adams (So., 5-8, Louisville, OH/HS) took an assist from Kirsten Gillespie (Fr., 5-7, Hinckley, OH/Highland) and hit a hard shot that initially appeared to be saved, but slipped through the goalkeeper's hands. Eight minutes later, Walsh took advantage of a corner kick when Mollie Vanover (Jr., 5-8, Tipp City, OH/Tippacanoe) received the corner, passed it to Gina Pinzone (So., 5-6, Cleveland, OH/Padua Franciscan), who then passed it back to Vanover for the goal. Pinzone later added the third and final goal in the 84th minute on an assist from Molly Martin (So., 5-7, Canfield, OH/HS).
Jill Zanney (Jr., 5-11, Brunswick, OH/HS) had an excellent game in goal providing her sixth shutout with seven saves. Altogether, Walsh outshot Ursuline 9-7.
