Group description
Monogenic diabetes is a category of over distinct 10 forms of diabetes mellitus caused by single gene defects of pancreas development, beta cell function, insulin production, or insulin secretion. Since about 1992, the best known forms of monogenic diabetes have been referred to as maturity onset diabetes of the young, but monogenic diabetes is gradually replacing MODY as a more accurate and preferred term.
