          • Two genes tell how Parkinson's progresses
Sydney, Feb 13 (IANS) Two genes tied to protein accumulation in a Parkinson's patient's brain can tell how quickly the disease will progress in an individual, says a new finding.
          • 4 New Genes Linked to Type 2 Diabetes
THURSDAY, Feb. 9 (HealthDay News) -- Four new genes associated with type 2 diabetes have been identified by researchers, who also pinpointed six independent diabetes-associated gene variants at previously known locations on chromosomes.
          • Sex & Parenting Genes Discovered in Mice
Men are from Mars and women are from Venus, but how did they get there? Our gender differences might be a function of how our brains react to hormones, a new study on mice suggests.
          • Two Genes for Sealing In Memories Identified
Inside the teensy brains of fruit flies lies the blueprint for how memories form — information that likely carries over to our bulky noggins — and researchers have just identified two genes that are key to forming long-term memories.
          • Environment affects mental illness genes
WASHINGTON, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Genes linked to schizophrenia and autism are members of a select club of genes regulated during environmentally sensitive times, U.S. researchers said.
          • Why Bad Immunity Genes Survive
University of Utah biologists found new evidence why mice, people and other vertebrate animals carry thousands of varieties of genes to make immune-system proteins named MHCs - even though some of those genes make us susceptible to infections and to autoimmune diseases.

SHEEP producers: how about a 17-micron Merino with the carcase attributes of a White Suffolk?
          • Ovarian cancer risk related to inherited inflammation genes
Genes that are known to be involved in inflammation were found to be related to risk of ovarian cancer.

Vavilov's Principle (named for botanist Nikolai Vavilov, who died in a Soviet prison camp in 1943 after Stalin declared his scientific views politically incorrect) goes like this: The area where a plant was first domesticated is where the greatest number...
