Abstract: The authors developed a nurse-computer interaction framework by integrating concepts from human-computer interaction, nursing informatics, and developmental psychology. In this framework, nurses and computers interact in a system of mutual influences, with information being the medium of exchange between them. Nurse behaviors and computer interface actions occur according to their respective characteristics. In turn, the nurse-computer dyad is embedded within a nursing context and moves along a nursing informatics developmental trajectory. A sample of findings from empirical studies is placed ...
Abstract: A national park is as integral to its regional environment as it is to the nation. Whether one wants to manage it that way or not, a park is dependent on the resources-human and physiobiological-of the environs, just as the environs are modified by the park's existence. This view may not jibe with the spirit of those who strive to protect a patch of old-time Africa as a refuge of serenity and stability in a world of tumult and change. But the park has its own ecology, just as does any creature within it, although the park's, being more abstract, is more difficult to discern. Planned or not, a ...
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To assess how park characteristics and demographic factors are associated with park use. METHODS: We studied a diverse sample of parks in a Southern California metropolitan area in 2006-2008 representing a variety of racial and ethnic communities of different socioeconomic strata. We surveyed 51 park directors, 4257 park users and local residents, and observed 30 parks. We explored relationships among the number of people observed, the number of park programs offered, number of organized activities observed, park size, existence of park advisory board, perceptions of safety, and pop...

Abstract: Abstract This article describes the work that led to what is now known as the Parks-McClellan algorithm. Within the bigger picture of filter design methods, this paper recount events that had an impact on the inspiration to develop the Parks-McClellan algorithm, i.e., the Remez exchange algorithm with optimal Chebyshev approximation for FIR filter design.
