  • Bounds for Disconnection Exponents 1995 9 citations ? 3 self

  • Abstract: We slightly inprove the upper bounds of disconnection exponents for planar Brownian motion that we derived in an earlier paper. We also give a plain proof of the lower bound 1=(2?) for the disconnection exponent for one path. 1 Introduction The first purpose of this paper is to improve the upper bounds of Brownian critical exponents derived in Werner [13]. The basic ideas and tools of the proof are similar to those used in [13]. We refer to this paper for a detailed introduction and definitions of disconnection exponents for planar Brownian motion and for more references. If j n denotes the di...

  • Stability Of Small Grains In Hii Regions And Reflection Nebulae

  • Abstract: We have analyzed data to assess the relative amounts of small and large grains in regions and reflection nebulae. Our most important finding is that no evidence for small grain destruction is seen in reflection nebulae, even for [high] values of the radiation energy density at which significant grain destruction apparently occurs in regions. This suggests that it is not only the total radiant energy density but also the energy per photon which determines the stability of small grains in astrophysical environments. INTRODUCTION The mid-infrared emission from interstellar dust is in many cases c...

  • Do the Infrared Emission Features Need Ultraviolet Excitation

  • Abstract: We present the results of imaging spectroscopy of the reflection nebula 133, obtained with the infrared camera and circular variable filter wheel on the Infrared Space Observatory (1S0). Our observations reveal the infrared emission features at 6.2, 7.7, 8.6, 11.3, and 12.7 pm, and associated 5 -- 15 continuum emission. The stellar system illuminating 133 has the ratio of ultraviolet of 0.4 to total flux of any stars demonstrated to date to excite the IEFs and associated continuum emission from adjacent interstellar dust, as opposed to dust. The low fraction of flux from this system poses a pr...

  • Approximations for the cylindrical wire kernel

  • Abstract: Abstract The authors introduce several new approximations to the cylindrical wire kernel. These approximations are derived from a recently found exact series solution for the cylindrical wire kernel. It is also demonstrated that the well-known reduced kernel and far-zone approximations may be obtained as special limiting cases of this series
