Abstract: The effect of recombinant human growth factors: rhIL-6, rhGM-CSF and rhEPO on normal human hematopoietic progenitor cells was studied by using liquid and semisolid culture systems. The results showed that the expanding folds of progenitor cells after culturing with the three growth factors were 4.3 +/- 0.6, 9.4 +/- 0.9 and 13.7 +/- 1.0 respectively, being markedly higher than those of control (2.4 +/- 0.7, P < 0.01. Abstract: Human-human hybridomas were generated using pokeweed mitogen-stimulated lymphocytes from the regional lymph nodes of cancer patients by fusion to the LICR-2 human myeloma cell line. A total of 35 fusions, using the regional lymph node lymphocytes of cancer patients, resulted in hybrid growth in 23% of wells plated with 21 IgG ELISA positive clones, 6 of which have maintained stable human monoclonal antibody production. Abstract: We report the construction of a mouse-human (M-H) heterohybridoma by fusion of the murine myeloma cell line NS-1 and human spleen cells from a 17 week old fetus. The nonsecreting, cloned hybridoma cell line II was resistant to 8-azaguanine (8-AG) and sensitive to hypoxanthine, aminopterin and thymidine (HAT) medium. It grew rapidly in 8-AG containing medium (doubling time 20 hrs.), but did not grow in HAT medium or in non-serum medium. Abstract: In search of a (new) viral etiological agent, we screened 64 lymph node samples from Hodgkin's disease (HD) and 43 samples (32 lymph node and 11 skin biopsies) from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) for human herpesvirus 7 (HHV-7). Twenty-nine control samples were tested as well, including 17 with benign lymphadenopathy. None of the samples tested positive by Southern blot hybridization using HHV-7-specific probes. Abstract: We succeeded in establishing a mouse-human (M-H) heterohybridoma clone which provides parental cells useful for human monoclonal antibody (hMoAb) production. Electron micrographs show that the M-H hybridoma cells retain characteristics of murine origin with regard to chromatin patterns, small granules, granular endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. Abstract: The results of a comparative analysis of feedback strategies used in human-human communication and human-machine communication in Swedish are reported in this paper. The aim of this study is twofold: to provide a categorization of feedback expressions based on contextual information and to verify the hypothesis that acoustic characteristics of feedback expressions can be regarded as cues to the interpretation of the function they carry out and the communicative intention they convey.
Abstract: Normal human placental trophoblasts have recently been shown to contain receptors for hCG/hLH. The present studies investigated the expression of these receptors in hyperplastic and anaplastic trophoblasts in gestational trophoblastic neoplasms. The results demonstrated that both hydatidiform moles and choriocarcinomas contained receptor messenger RNA (mRNA) and receptor protein. A variety of nontrophoblast tumors, on the other hand, contained neither receptor mRNA nor receptor protein.
