The coronary sinus is a collection of veins joined together to form a large vessel that collects blood from the myocardium of the heart. It is present in humans and other animals.
Coronary ischemia is a medical term for not having enough blood through the coronary arteries.
A coronary occlusion is the partial or complete obstruction of blood flow in a coronary artery. This condition may cause a heart attack.
Coronary steal is a phenomenon where an alteration of circulation patterns lead to a reduction in the blood directed to the coronary circulation.
Coronary circulation is the circulation of blood in the blood vessels of the heart muscle. Although blood fills the chambers of the heart, the muscle tissue of the heart (the myocardium) is so thick that it requires coronary blood vessels to deliver blood deep into it.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of sleeve circumcision of prepuce and coronary sulcus skin in the treatment of patients with multiple condyloma acuminatum (CA) of coronary sulcus of penis. METHODS: In a randomized clinical control study, 35 patients were randomized to the treatment group and received sleeve circumcision of prepuce and coronary sulcus skin. 34 patients were randomized to the control group, received electric cauterization of verrucae plus the general circumcision. The recurrence of CA was evaluated in follow-up visit within three months after the treatment. RESULTS: The...
Abstract: Although several treatments for sulcus vocalis have been reported, the condition continues to be known as an extremely intractable vocal disorder even now. We report the good outcome of a new treatment for sulcus vocalis. The operation was performed under intubated general anesthesia. We aspireted abdominal fat using an 18-gauge needle and a 20 = cc disposal syringe first. After collection of the fat, laryngomicrosurgery and laser vaporization of the sulcus bilaterally was performed using a KTP laser. Then, the collected fat was injected into the thyroarytenoid muscle bilaterally (about 1cc on...
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: Transcortical approaches to the inferior horn often result in quadrant hemianopsia attributable to the injury to the optic radiation. The inferior temporal sulcus (ITS) has received little attention as an entrance point for the transsulcal approach. We used the method of detecting the ITS with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and investigated the sulcus pattern of ITS, its incidence rate, and the availability of the ITS to the corticotomy for selective amygdalohippocampectomy. METHODS: The sulcus patterns of the ITS of 100 temporal lobes in 50 healthy individuals were classifi...
Abstract: The frontal cortex concerned with eye movements was investigated by electrical stimulation in the cat. Stimulation of the lateral part of the frontal cortex at the coronary sulcus evoked rapid medial movement and enophthalmos of the contralateral eye. The latency of eye movement following cortical stimulation was found to be shorter in the coronary sulcus than in the medial wall of the hemisphere under the cruciate sulcus or in the presylvian sulcus.
Abstract: Abstract Previous imaging work has shown that the superior temporal sulcus (STS) region and the intraparietal sulcus (IPS) are specifically activated during the passive observation of shifts in eye gaze [Pelphrey, K. A., Singerman, J. D., Allison, T., & McCarthy, G. Brain activation evoked by perception of gaze shifts: The influence of context. Neuropsychologia, 41, 156-170, 2003; Hoffman, E. A., & Haxby, J. V. Abstract: BACKGROUND: Coronary sulcus of the auricular lobe has been related to the presence of ischemic cardiopathy although the nature of this relation has not been well defined. The aim of the present study was to determine whether there is a relation between the sulcus and the classical coronary risk factors, or whether the association between coronariopathy and sulcus is independent of such factors. METHODS: Patients admitted into an intensive care unit (n = 222) were divided into two groups according to whether coronary sulcus was present and the following analysis were performed: 1) comparative s...
Abstract: During coronary artery bypass grafting, the length of the graft to the circumflex coronary artery or its end branches can be underestimated because of the posterior location of the circumflex. Herein, we describe a new bypass route--which we consider the shortest--to the ascending aorta. In 2 patients, during proximal anastomosis of the saphenous vein bypass graft (via a route either anterior to the pulmonary artery or the transverse sinus) from the circumflex to the ascending aorta, the vein graft (approximately 5-6 cm in length) proved too short. We performed bypass in a new direction--from ...
Abstract: BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Identification of the motor strip on MR imaging studies is difficult in the presence of mass effect and vasogenic edema because sulcal landmarks are obscured. We hypothesize that a difference in cortical thickness between the motor and sensory strips is readily apparent on T2-weighted images in the presence of vasogenic edema and reliably identifies the central sulcus. METHODS: Thirteen patients with brain tumors resulting in vasogenic edema near the central sulcus were identified. The cortical thickness of the anterior and posterior banks of the central sulcus as well ...
