A spacer is generally something used to create a space between two objects, often to properly position them.
Spacer coupling is a cylindrical piece installed between the pump shaft coupling hub and motor shaft coupling hub to provide enough space to remove pump mechanical seal when doing maintenance without moving either the pump body or the driver.
A Molecular spacer or simply a spacer in chemistry is any flexible part of a molecule providing a connection between
Spacer DNA are regions of non-transcribed DNA between tandemly repeated genes, such as ribosomal RNA genes in eukaryotes.
Orthodontic separators (simply spacers) are rubber bands or sometimes metal appliances used in orthodontics before braces are applied on teeth or an expander is applied in the mouth and are put on the molars at the second orthodontic appointment.Spacers are circular rubber bands about a centimeter in diameter placed between top and bottom molars; there may be 1-12 spacers applied.
Prior to the adoption of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), the spacer GIF was a transparent image, often used to control blank space within a web page, that can be resized according to the width and height dimensions it is given. The reason a spacer GIF is invisible is so that an HTML developer can create a table cell and fill the background with a specific color that can be viewed through the transparent spacer GIF.
In Isaac Asimov's Foundation/Empire/Robot series, the Spacers were the first humans to emigrate to space. About a millennium thereafter, they severed political ties with Earth, and embraced low population growth and extreme longevity (with lifespans reaching 400 years) as a means for a high standard of living, in combination with using large numbers of robots as servants.
A rebar spacer is a device that secures the reinforcing steel or "rebar" in reinforced concrete structures as the rebar is assembled in place prior to the final concrete pour. The spacers are left in place for the pour to keep the reinforcing in place, and become a permanent part of the structure.
ITS (for internal transcribed spacer) refers to a piece of non-functional RNA situated between structural ribosomal RNAs (rRNA) on a common precursor transcript. Read from 5' to 3', this polycistronic rRNA precursor transcript contains the 5' external transcribed sequence (5' ETS), 18S rRNA, ITS1, 5.8S rRNA, ITS2, 26S rRNA and finally the 3'ETS. During rRNA maturation, ETS and ITS pieces are excised and as non-functional maturation by-products rapidly degraded. Genes encoding ribosomal rRNA and spacers occur in tandem repeats that are thousands of copies long, each separated by regions of non-transcribed DNA termed intergenic spacer (IGS) or ...
Abstract: INTRODUCTION: A study was conducted to compare the efficacy of market available spacer (with valve) and home made spacer (without valve)--Bislery bottle. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifteen patients of bronchial asthma were included in the study. With the use of both devices there was significant bronchodilator effect. The reversibility using Bislery bottle was same as with spacer (market available) while comparing the FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC %, FEF 25-75 and PEFR value. RESULT: The difference in percent change in reversibility values by both the devices was not statistically significant (p < 0.05). CON...
Abstract: Lewis addition between the metalloligand [RuCp(C[triple bond]Cpy-4)(dppf)] (1) (dppf = (C(5)H(4)PPh(2))(2)Fe) and MCl(2)(CH(3)CN)(2) gives [RuCp(C[triple bond]Cpy-4)(dppf)](2)[MCl(2)] (M = Pd (2) and Pt (3)), all of which have been spectroscopically and crystallographically characterized. The mixed-metal adducts show the d(6)-d(8)-d(6) metal alignment maintained by the trans disposition of the directionally rigid 4-ethynylpyridine at the centrosymmetric square-planar metal center. Electrochemical studies of these and the related known complexes trans-[RuCl(C[triple bond]Cpy-4)(dppm)(2)] (4) an...

Abstract: The aim was to develop and implement an evidence based guideline for the treatment of acute asthma using a metered dose inhaler and spacer combination. Children admitted to Cork University Hospital Paediatric Department with acute asthma were identified during two identical 2 month seasonal periods before (2005) and after (2006) implementation of the new guidelines in September 2006. Pre-intervention and post-intervention audits by case note review were performed to determine the impact of and compliance with this evidence-based guideline emphasising patient assessment, spacer delivered bronch...
Abstract: The Funhaler (FH) is a novel spacer device (holding chamber) that has been designed to improve adherence and aerosol delivery in young asthmatic children using a metered dose inhaler. A pilot study reported a 38% increase in parent-reported adherence over 2 weeks compared with the child's normal spacer. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the FH would be associated with superior adherence in the medium term (3 months) using an objective assessment. Forty-seven children aged 18 months to 7 years were randomised to a FH or control small volume spacer. Participants were reviewed mont...
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: There are many settings in which a spacer device is not available for the administration of bronchodilator. Therefore, we tested whether a paper disposable cup is as effective as a commercially produced spacer to administer bronchodilator. METHODOLOGY: Randomised controlled trial. 50 subjects aged 16-50 years who had wheeze and a greater than 10% decrease in FEV1 after histamine inhalation test (HIT). Subjects were randomised to either the 150 ml paper disposable cup group (CUP) or the commercially produced spacer group (SPACER). Twenty minutes after 400 microg salbutamol was admini...
Abstract: In recent years the therapy of childhood asthma has progressively improved; in fact we passed from the exclusive use of oral or parenteral therapy to the prevalent use of aerosol-therapy. The aerosol therapeutic use can be carry out by traditional inhalation devices or by spacer devices (or simply spacers). The spacers have a low price and they allow a better effectiveness of the therapy for the good diffusibility of the drugs. Besides the children usually show a good compliance with this method. We studied the different effectiveness of a beta 2-stimulant drug given by traditional aerosol or ...
