     Group description

Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather over periods of time that range from decades to millions of years. It can be a change in the average weather or a change in the distribution of weather events around an average (for example, greater or fewer extreme weather events). Climate change may be limited to a specific region, or may occur across the whole earth. In recent usage, especially in the context of environmental policy, climate change usually refers to changes in modern climate.

I'm just wondering what the effect of Nobel laureate Al Gores statements at the climate-change conference might be for the impetus of the environmental movement and future climate-change discussions.

Stating incorrect facts, or facts out of context, seems to be a major thorn in the side of scientists who are trying to provide compelling data as evidence of global warming and its impending consequences (whether it is 5 years from now or 15 doesn't really matter), especially in such a turbulent political climate (pardon the pun!). It seems to be another symptom of a much larger political problem, which is also highlighted by the deadlock between all the interested groups and international blocs that are attending the conference. I hope some kind of resolution ultimately comes out of these talks.

The New York Times has a great section that is currently covering the Conference, both inside and outside the venue:
