     Group description

Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) is an independent regional think tank based in Cairo which is dedicated to the promotion of renewable energies (RE) and energy efficiency (EE). RCREEE formulates and disseminates policies in support of RE and EE and provides a platform for the regional exchange on policy issues and technological questions. In addition, RCREEE encourages the participation of the private sector in order to promote the growth of a regional industry of RE and EE. In the startup phase the Center is financed by Denmark (DANIDA), Germany (Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (Germany)), the European Union and Egypt (Ministry of Electricity and Energy). The Board of Trustees is the supreme body of RCREEE and comprises representatives from the 10 RCREEE member states. On 3 February 2009 during the first officiall Board of Trustees Meeting, the RCREEE Organizational Charta was officially adopted. In addition, the Board of Trustees has elected the RCREEE Executive Committee. The Executive Committee will be entrusted with overseeing the implementation of the decisions of the Board of Trustees and is designated to act as link between the Board of Trustees, representing the Member States, and the RCREEE Secretariat, entrusted with the day to day management of the Centre. The Interim Secretariat, which currently comprises members from Egypt, Tunisia, Syria and Germany, with specialisations in engineering, economics, law, and finance, reflects both the regional orientation of the Centre as well as the broad scope of its activities and expertise.
