Abstract:"What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?". Blackwood M. PMID: 1570127 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

. This paper proposes a multidrawing approach to graph drawing. Current graph-drawing systems typically produce only one drawing of a graph. By contrast, the multidrawing approach calls for systematically producing many drawings of the same graph, where the drawings presented to the user represent a balance between aesthetics and diversity. This addresses a fundamental problem in graph drawing, namely, how to avoid requiring the user to specify formally and precisely all the characteristics of a single "nice" drawing. We present a proof-of-conc...
We experimentally investigate whether individuals can reliably detect cooperators in an anonymous decision environment by allowing participants to condition their choices in an asymmetric prisoner's dilemma and a trust game (i) on their partners' donation share to a self-selected charity, and (ii) on whether their partner belongs to a group with high or low average donations (group affiliation) . We find that high donators achieve a higher-than-average expected payoff by cooperating predominantly with other high donators. The group affiliation ...

We present results from a survey for fast pulsars at the Arecibo Observatory. Approximately 260 square degrees of sky were searched, primarily at Galactic latitude jbj ! 8 ffi . Signals were sampled at intervals of 517 s, allowing for the possibility of detecting pulsars with periods as short as 1 ms or less. Sensitivity varied as a function of sky position. In a typical direction, long period pulsars with flux densities of order 0.9 mJy at 430 MHz could be detected, although sensitivity to the fastest pulsars was somewhat curtailed. Sixty-one ...

Abstract On September 23,2003, the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) hosted a meeting in Dahlgren, VA, to explore the arming of unmanned systems. We were interested in what it was going to take to produce armed, fully-autonomous, unmanned systems that could decide for themselves when to pull the trigger. We invited personnel from the Navy's Office of the Judge Advocate General (JAG), International Law Division, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense's (OSD) Office of General Counsel to attend because we had concluded that the legal ...
