Abstract: Pulmonary edema in pregnancy. Witry SW. University of Virginia Health Sciences Center, Charlottesville 22908. Normal cardiovascular and respiratory changes in pregnancy can predispose women to the development of pulmonary edema. Conditions and treatments unique to pregnancy, such as multiple gestation or tocolysis, further increase this risk. Recognition of risk factors and signs and symptoms of pulmonary edema allows the nurse to intervene quickly, thus decreasing potential complications to the mother and child.
