Abstract In this paper, a 256×256 pixel CMOS imager is described that exhibits 120 dB dynamic range, 56 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), 65% fill factor, and an effective frame rate of 50 Hz. This has been achieved using a unique combination of a multiexposure and a multigain linear readout. The imager has been integrated in 1 ?m double-metal CMOS technology. The intended application is for driver's assistant systems, but the imager can be used for a wide range of applications requiring high dynamic range
A patient who had triple cancer (colon cancer, endometrial cancer, and ovarian cancer) in HNPCC kindred is reported. Her family history revealed the occurrence of colon cancer in her paternal aunt and in two cousins, fulfilling the minimum HNPCC criteria. Microsatellite instability analysis revealed replication error (RER)+ in all cancer lesions at 2 microsatellite loci (D1S191, BAT 40). SSCP analysis suggested germline mutation in exon 2 of the hMSH2 gene. This case showed the importance of complete family-history investigations to identify HN...
A case of synchronous triple urogenital cancer, which was comprised of renal cell carcinoma of the left kidney, transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder, and adenocarcinoma of the prostate, is reported. A 72-year-old Japanese male patient was referred to our outpatient clinic with the complaint of asymptomatic hematuria. At that time, his serum of level of PSA was elevated to 20 ng/ml. Cystourethroscopy showed a papillary bladder tumor and coagula through the left urinary orifice. Ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic reso...
BACKGROUND: American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging is increasingly accepted as a prognostic standard for cancer management. The Commission on Cancer requires approved cancer programs to use AJCC staging for all cancers. Previous studies document increasing use of AJCC staging by hospitals with cancer programs. This review examines programmatic and clinical factors affecting AJCC staging completeness. METHODS: The data are registry records submitted to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) for cases diagnosed during 1993 or, for compar...
Case-controlled and cohort analyses of the possible effect of oral contraceptive (OC) use on skin cancers are reviewed. The possibility that OCs may increase risk of skin neoplasms is suggested by the doubling in prevalence of skin malignancies in among whites every 10-15 years, the occurrence of hyperpigmentation in pregnancy, and the reports that pregnancy may accelerate the course of existing melanoma. The lesions of concern are benign melanocytic nevi, or moles, and malignant melanoma. Nevi are risk factors for melanoma. Pregnancy increases...

This is a review of bone scintigraphy performed in patients with breast cancer, pulmonary cancer, uterine cervix cancer, and prostatic cancer from 1980 to 1985. The incidence of accumulation in the spine was 25.0% in breast cancer, 29.5% in lung cancer, 24.3% in cervical cancer, and 47.0% in prostatic cancer. The predominant location of the accumulation was the lumbar vertebra (68.9%), followed by the thoracic vertebra (45.0%), sacral vertebra (37.5%), and cervical vertebra (23.6%). The survivability after spinal accumulation was determined by ...
AIM: To investigate the association between cytochrome P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) gene polymorphism and cancer susceptibility by genotyping of CYP2C19 poor metabolizers (PMs) in cancer patients. METHODS: One hundred and thirty-five cases of esophagus cancer, 148 cases of stomach cancer, 212 cases of lung cancer, 112 cases of bladder cancer and 372 controls were genotyped by allele specific amplification-polymerase chain reaction (ASA-PCR) for CYP2C19 PMs. The frequencies of PMs in cancer groups and control group were compared. RESULTS: The frequencies...

PURPOSE: To test the antitumor activity of Elsamitrucin in metastatic cancer of the breast, colon and rectum, non-small cell lung and ovary. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Eligibility required histologically proven cancer. Patients with colorectal or non-small cell lung cancer could not have received prior chemotherapy. Patients were entered if WHO PS was < or = 2 and organ functions were normal. Treatment consisted of Elsamitrucin 25 mg/m2/week given as a 5-10 min infusion for at least 3-6 weekly doses. RESULTS: One hundred and five patients entered th...
