Abstract The Visible-Infrared SASE Amplifier (VISA) undulator consists of four 99 cm long segments. Each undulator segment is set up on a pulsed-wire bench, to characterize the magnetic properties and to locate the magnetic axis of the FODO array. Subsequently, the location of the magnetic axis, as defined by the wire, is referenced to tooling balls on each magnet segment by means of a straightness interferometer. Abstract The VISA (Visible to Infrared SASE Amplifier) SASE free electron laser has been successfully operated at the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) at BNL. High gain and saturation were observed at 840 nm. We describe here the diagnostic system, experimental procedures and data reduction algorithms, as the FEL performance was measured along the length of the undulator. We also discuss selected spectral radiation measurements
Screen video recording is a common component of usability testing. We have developed tools for reviewing and analyzing the video more efficiently. The tool: 1) breaks up a video into shorter segments and provide a compact pictorial summarization of the video; 2) provides a variety of ways for accessing video; 3) allows web-based review of video; and 4) provides a web-based way to post and view annotations of the video.
Abstract To aid in the development of instrument driver software and to provide multi-vendor interoperability the VXIplug&play Systems Alliance has created standards for instrument driver structure, device management, instrument I/O, and error reporting. This document describes how to use the VISA Transition Library or VTL, the lowest level I/O interface. VTL is used within VXIplug&play instrument drivers to communicate with physical instruments

Abstract The VISA (Visible to Infrared SASE Amplifier) project is designed to be a SASE-FEL driven to saturation in the sub-micron wavelength region. Its goal is to test various aspects of the existing theory of self-amplified spontaneous emission, as well as numerical codes. Measurements include: angular and spectral distribution of the FEL light at the exit and inside of the undulator; electron beam micro-bunching using CTR; single-shot time resolved measurements of the pulse profile, using an auto-correlation technique and FROG algorithm.
