Abstract: Abstract Terrorism research has fast become one of the more important fields in research of late. Researchers need to be able to quickly make connections from vast storehouses of publicly available resources. The problem of information overload rapidly becomes one of the central challenges to existing information retrieval systems. Commercial search engines are far too generally scoped to be of much assistance to terrorism researchers. We believe that a narrowly focused vertical search engine coupled with several novel information-organiza tion features will dramatically change the current terrorism research landscape. We introduce the Terror Tracker System (TTS) as our answer to addressing many of the current overload problems

The wave of terror that has befallen the Israeli civilian population over the past two years, striking deep into the heart of towns and cities all over the country, presents a unique challenge for the health care system in general and nursing in particular. This article has a two-fold purpose: (a) to describe discussions that took place with four focus groups consisting of emergency room nurses who had recently cared for victims of terror, and (b) to delineate recommendations for policy enhancement based upon these discussions. Qualitative anal...
Terrorist attacks and their aftermath have had a powerful impact on children and their families. Media and television exposure of terrorist events throughout the world has increased during the past few years. There is increasing concern about the effects of this exposure on children who witness these violent images. To develop a proactive and strategic response to reactions of fear, clinicians, educators, and policy makers must understand the psychologic effects of media coverage of terrorism on children. Previous research has focused on media ...
OBJECTIVE: In the past 2 years hundreds of children in Israel have been injured in terrorist attacks. There is a paucity of data on the epidemiology of terror-related trauma in the pediatric population and its effect on the health care system. The objective of this study was to review the accumulated Israeli experience with medical care to young victims of terrorism and to use the knowledge obtained to contribute to the preparedness of medical personnel for future events. METHODS: Data on all patients who were younger than 18 years and were hos...
OBJECTIVE: This study examines gender differences in posttraumatic vulnerability in the face of the terror attacks that occurred during the Al-Aqsa Intifada. In addition, the contribution of level of exposure, sense of safety, self-efficacy, and coping strategies is assessed. METHOD: Participants were 250 men and 262 women, who constitute a representative sample of Israel's adult population. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire consisting of 51 items that were drawn from several questionnaires widely used in the study of trauma. R...
Abstract TRACKER Network (UK) Ltd has secured the agreement of all the 51 Police Forces in England, Wales and Scotland to operate the TRACKER stolen vehicle tracking and recovery system throughout Great Britain. TRACKER Network has also been granted a dedicated radio frequency by the Radio Communications Agency of the DTI and has concluded a nationwide transmission agreement with National Transcommunication Limited. In addition, type approval has been granted for all of the components of the operating system. Here, the author describes the TRA...
We present a demonstrated and commercially viable self-tracker, using robust software that fuses data from inertial and vision sensors. Compared to infrastructurebased trackers, self-trackers have the advantage that objects can be tracked over an extremely wide area, without the prohibitive cost of an extensive network of sensors or emitters to track them. So far most AR research has focused on the long-term goal of a purely vision-based tracker that can operate in arbitrary unprepared environments, even outdoors. We instead chose to start with...

Abstract A beam test was performed in May 2003 to validate with an LHC-like beam all the CMS tracker final components assembled together, including detectors, mechanical structure, fully optical readout, DAQ, power supplies and cables and to test the stability of the overall system. A sector of the third layer cylinder mechanical support was produced according to the final design and was equipped with services. Six modules from a pre-production and their corresponding optical hybrids were also installed in this sub-structure. This system was b...
Abstract The probabilistic multi-hypothesis tracker (PMHT) is an algorithm of considerable beauty. In practice, its performance turns out to be similar to that of the probabilistic data association filter (PDAF) in many cases; and since the implementation of the PDAF is less intense numerically the PMHT has been having a hard time finding acceptance. The task, therefore, is to "make the PMHT work". The PMHT's problems are expressed as "nonadaptivity", "narcissism", and "over-hospitality to clutter". In this paper we show (in section 3) modific...

This paper describes a ultrasound (3-D US) system that aims to achieve augmented reality (AR) visualization during laparoscopic surgery, especially for the liver. To acquire 3-D US data of the liver, the tip of a laparoscopic ultrasound probe is tracked inside the abdominal cavity using a magnetic tracker. The accuracy of magnetic trackers, however, is greatly affected by magnetic field distortion that results from the close proximity of metal objects and electronic equipment, which is usually unavoidable in the operating room. In this paper, w...
