    • Abstract:  Abstract A new 3-DOF spatial parallel mechanism, named translational 3-URC, is presented. The translational 3-URC makes the platform translate with respect to the base. The new mechanism belongs to a set of mechanisms with topologically equal architectures, called 3-URC, which contains another mechanism behaving as a spherical parallel wrist. The translational 3-URC position and mobility analyses are addressed and solved in closed form and the singularity conditions are written in explicit form and interpreted

            • Inverse Kinematics (two joints) for foot placement
[In this reprinted #altdevblogaday in-depth piece, game programmer Simon Yeung presents "an analytical two joints Inverse Kinematics solution in 3D case for foot placement" on terrain.] Games sometimes need to solve Inverse Kinematics (IK) for a more realistic look, like foot placement on terrain. There are different methods to solve IK problems -- some are numerical methods which can be used ...

University of Southampton academics are pioneering a new way of using motion capture technology to examine the way pianists play the piano. By using a unique kinematic measurement technique, known as HAWK (Hand And Wrist Kinematics), researchers will be able to look at individual pianists' playing technique - giving an insight into the posture of their hands on the keys and the movements they ...

In any given three-year period, better than four in 10 pitchers will end up spending time on the disabled list. It's a troubling stat and one that hasn't been helped by pitch limits. Since Keith Woolner and Dr. Rany Jazayerli first published their research showing the troubling effects of workloads, high stress starts have plummeted. In its place, we've been given a one-size-fits-all approach ...
