    • Abstract:  Abstract This paper provides a background to modeling and simulation of a `little LEO' microsatellite communications system, which includes a brief introduction of the UoSAT microsatellites, its `store-&-forward' communications system, the experimental communications payload-the Digital Signal Processing Experiment (DSPE) and the in-orbit CPFSK/MSK modems experiments using PoSAT-1 DSPE. This paper concentrates on the modeling and simulation aspect of a research program to optimize the `little LEO' microsatellite communications system by modulation/demodulat ion using DSP techniques. The advantages and disadvantages of simulation tools and the positive and negative experiences from modeling and simulation of the `little LEO' microsatellite communications system and a novel DSP MSK coherent demodulator/decoder are presented
