The accurate evaluation of cardiovascular reactions to psychological challenge requires stable baselines against which change can be evaluated. When more than one challenge is employed, the recovery of this baseline becomes important in order to avoid carryover effects. Resting periods, even those of 20 min or more, do not guarantee baseline stability. We compared a 20-min resting condition and a new form of baseline condition in 48 college men using video tasks as the psychological challenges. The new form was a minimally demanding color detec...
Phase I thorough QT (TQT) studies are routinely conducted by pharmaceutical companies for all new compounds to satisfy the requirements of International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) E14 guidance on the evaluation of QTc prolongation. The primary endpoint is the change from baseline in QT interval corrected for heart rate (QTc), and the hypothesis of interest is the noninferiority of drug to placebo. Sometimes, due to the properties of the compound, it becomes necessary to use parallel group designs for TQT studies. In such situations, the ...
'Baseline' estimation is of fundamental importance in both visual and numerical analysis of fetal heart rate recordings, even though the baseline itself is in reality an imaginary line. Here we describe a linear method of estimating baseline in fetal heart rate recordings. The method is easy to implement on a digital computer, and is capable of precise mathematical analysis. Non-linear methods, on the other hand, introduce unpredictable and non-quantifiable statistical bias, and are best avoided.
The possibility of recovering earth rotation and network geometry (baseline) parameters are emphasized. The numerical simulated experiments performed are set up in an environment where station coordinates vary with respect to inertial space according to a simulated earth rotation model similar to the actual but unknown rotation of the earth. The basic technique of VLBI and its mathematical model are presented. The parametrization of earth rotation chosen is described and the resulting model is linearized. A simple analysis of the geometry of th...

Abstract This paper describes the evaluation of a GPS-based remote system for the calibration of precision clocks. Experiments were conducted using multi-channel GPS receivers. Results of zero baseline-common clock and short baseline-common clock common view measurements show that these receivers are suitable for remote calibrations after the correction of delays associated with the measurements

In randomized clinical trials, a pre-treatment measurement is often taken at baseline, and post-treatment effects are measured at several time points post-baseline, say t=1, ..., T. At the end of the trial, it is of interest to assess the treatment effect based on the mean change from baseline at the last time point T. We consider statistical methods for (i) a point estimate and 95 per cent confidence interval for the mean change from baseline at time T for each treatment group, and (ii) a p-value and 95 per cent confidence interval for the bet...
