Abstract: The particles within the magnetosphere have various origins and some have complex histories. Among those observed by instruments on Skylab were galactic cosmic rays, trapped particles probably originating in the solar wind, and neutrons formed by the reaction of high-energy particles with the atmosphere. In addition, there were secondary particles produced by high-energy particles striking the structure of Skylab itself. Skylab's orbit was entirely within the magnetosphere.
