  • Abstract:  Performance evaluation of an air interface has a great importance in evaluating the overall system capacity of any mobile cellular network. In the context of the forthcoming European third generation universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS), this paper illustrates the use of the OPNET modeler/radio^TM tool to develop a CDMA system-level simulation platform. Emphasis has been put on radio functionalities of the simulator, as well as the most useful OPNET features used. A dedicated section deals with the radio pipeline removal as seen as an efficient solution to mitigate the simulation duration growth when increasing the network complexity.
