Abstract: Despite the potential of IT for developing the cognitive abilities of learning disabled populations, several deficiencies hinder progress. Some of these are illustrated and discussed: the problems of easy interaction with the computer, lack of a sound basis in educational and psychological theory, inability to modify parameters to suit individual capability, poor record keeping. It is argued that, though these problems are more critical in the case of the learning disabled, they need to be addressed to make IT more effective in the normal classroom too.
