  • Abstract:  INTRODUCTION 1 1 Introduction VisX is an extensive flexible software system for image processing and computer vision. It has been used in research projects for a wide range of applications including: multispectral image analysis, 3D object recognition, multi-frame image analysis, target tracking, neural networks and biological cell analysis. The VisX computer vision system was designed to provide three services: a library of computer vision algorithms, programming tools for new vision algorithms, and convenient access to special image-oriented computer devices. notable features of the VisX system are: a special flexible command line syntax, file headers that contain the data format, creation history and machine type, and support for process pipelines. The system has been effectively used on a number of multiprocessor environments. The system is at a mature stage of development; many of the commands have been in use for over 15 years.
