About my Work:Providing online measurements for all flat sheet processes. This includes films, webs, foils and strips. Technologies used range across the complete wavelength spectrum: from sonic through light to nucleonic. Major problems are caused by the environment sensors have to survive in, and measurement sensitivities to "noise" elements. Projects:Currently working on a mechanism for measuring paper thickness online, which is non-contacting, insensitive to temperature and vibration and remains affordable. Failed application attempts have been made with triangulation laser, floating inductive coils and differential microwave. Thermally stable, online beta measurement of process weight or thickness. Online measurement of visible light reflectance High resolution, sub-micron, measurement of cylindrical objects of infinite length. Vita / Publications:Worked in industrial measurement application and development for ABB Automation. 32 years. Formed MicronMeasurements after ABB transitioned the development group overseas. Now work in a global co-operative connecting measurement scientists whose passion for industrial gaging is un-quenched. |
Grants and Awards:Ice-cream and jello at bedtime About my Institution:Located in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Micronmeasurements offers solutions to mainly paper, plastics and metals industries. We have an agency for Jasch Gauging, an Indian process automation company, which we also do research for with MCS Engineering, a Dutch company. We also develop applications with Indev Gauging for plastic film sheet industries. We connect to "retired" scientists across all technical boundaries. We are a passionate group.
